Wild Things, or what once were wild things
This may not be much of a post, because I'm grading papers and jetting off to DC this afternoon, but I had to share the pictures of the crazy-ass cabin I escaped to this past week. It was called something punny like "Dances with Wolves" and had more dead animal action than any place I've ever seen. My uncle hunted big game in Africa and he didn't even have this kind of dead animal action. Not sure why the pix are tiny. Confusing. To wit:

Her: "Does it look to you that the deer are simply coming through the wall? Like they're magic deer or ghost deer or something?"
Him: "You've got to lay off the Delirium Tremens."

This was by far the most disturbing of the heads. Because it's just a head. Coming out of a plaque on the wall. Like he's stuck. Poor fox. Why am I underlining???

Here was the intensely disturbing possum (otter to your right). We had to do a close-up because it was just too gross to imagine.Him: "Possum noses feel like pencil erasers!"
Her: "You will not touch me with hands that touched that creature."

Crazy squirrel with corn. (Hahaha I mistyped and wrote "porn." Dirty squirrel)

This little fellow was right above the dining room table.
Her: "Think it's ironic to put the wee scavenger right above the table where food is served?"
Him: "That or some kind of Dantean punishment."

And this, ladies and gentlemen, was the view from my seat at the table. A turkey's ass. Charming. The front was very impressive, but this is the view I'll remember.

Holy crap. That's enough nightmare material to last me for weeks. Weeks!
Ha! I'd be running around covering up all their faces with sweaters and towels. Do not want.
Just FYI--the way you feel about mascots? Is the way I feel about taxidermied things.
Who the hell stuffs a possum and/or a raccoon?
Weird, I tell ya. Just weird. And, where was the stuffed beaver?
How about mounting bugs that were smooshed underfoot? To be honest I like the idea of the turkey butt. Animal butts get no respect. Its always the head that gets mounted. More glory for asses!
MA--it's something when you choose to put those things in your house. Very telling. Or something.
MG!--We thought about it. But then we got attached to the weirdness. 'Cause weird becomes funny fast on vacation. :)
JB--I don't doubt it. If I had been alone I would have been BONKERS.
CG--[chirp]
66--It's all I can wish for!
Claven--It's quite an ass, I'll give it that. Newfound respect, etc.
